My friend and I have started on a baking adventure. We’re well on our way to becoming cupcake queens. Actually we’ve just started but we are launching a blog soon. I will post the link when we’re good and ready.
I’ve always loved baking. It is a talent that was passed down to me by my grandmother, or “Nanny” as we like to call her. My fondest memories of her are in the kitchen. She was always whipping up something tasty and the house always smelled so delicious. I don’t remember her baking anything “fancy” just simple sweets from the heart. Cookies, pies and homemade bread were always in abundance at Nanny and Grampy’s house.
I’m not sure at what age I became interested in what Nanny was doing in the kitchen, all I know is that I wanted to make yummy things too. At first I simply experimented by throwing all the things I thought were yummy into a bowl and mixing, then eating. These were things like, chocolate chips, coconut and marshmallows. Uncooked and eaten like a snack these things were heavenly. Then somewhere along the line my Nanny introduced me to recipes, which at first I didn’t follow (sometimes still don’t). Eventually I got the hang of it and produced some delicious (and not-so delicious) treats. No matter the outcome, Nanny was also so supportive.
Nanny has since passed and although I’ve always baked I didn’t really start baking until after her passing. I feel that she’s working through me and this culinary adventure is as much a part of me as it is her. Thank you Nanny, RIP

Nice. God bless the Queen, and your endeavors.
