I have an overflowing plate of goodness on my hands right now. Too busy to blog, which I consider a good think although maybe all of you disagree.

So let’s see… derby. Yes, derby!

I missed an opportunity to bout last weekend and I’m still kicking myself in the ass for that one. “Whine, whine, I’m not ready, whine, whine, whine.” I know that it’s my responsibility to further my skills by participating in bouts but I really wish someone had told me I had no choice BUT to bout. Regardless of whether I was bouting or not it was still a good mash up and Tokyo Bombers Girls had one representative, YoYo Akiyo. It was YoYo’s first derby bout and despite the language and rule difficulties she still came away with MVP Jammer award. Woo-hoo!

Rob Shaw took some pretty awesome pics of the match. You can check them out here.

After much thought and consideration, I’ve decided to change my name from Bet T. Rage (which I wasn’t really fond of anyway) to… WAIT FOR IT…

Miso Wicked #EhT4

I wanted to somehow combine elements of both of my homes (Canada and Japan). I think I done good on this one. I would call it a success and lucky for me it’s unique enough to not be rejected by the international roster, I hope.

What else is happening in my life?

I started and finished the Hunger Games series and absolutely loved every page of the three book series. I think there were times when I actually thought I lived in Panum. I went through a bit of withdrawal when I finished but found solace in Factory Girls by Leslie Chang, which is what I am currently reading.

Between derby and full-time work I somehow manage to make time for two online courses. I’m taking the courses through Vancouver Island University and so far the experience has been positive. It’s the first time I’ve ever taken part in online learning so it’s had a slight learning curve but I seem to have figured out.

That’s about it for me. My birthday is coming up on October 5 so make sure you swing by and wish me a happy birthday.

As most of you know, I am part of a roller derby team.

When I tell people that I do roller derby, I would say 3 out of 5 of those people haven’t got a clue what the hell roller derby is. Left with the name alone, it’s not exactly easy to decipher (except for maybe the fact that we use roller skates) but besides that, roller derby to many people (particularly Japanese people) is an alien concept.

Many women in derby talk about being asked, “where’s the ball?” when explaining the sport they love. Skates, blockers, a pivot, and a jammmer, that’s all you need (maybe a ref as well). And in the rough and tumble world of derby, the jammer* isthe ball!*A jammer is a person by the way.

Tokyo Roller Girls (TRG) league recently held a mixed bout on Yokota Air Force base which was comprised of members of all of the teams under the TRG umbrella. Yokota Scary Blossoms, Zama Killer Katanas and Yokosuka Sushi Rollers. Tokyo Bomber Girlsdidn’t participate this time. We’re holding out for the bout on September 22 for which we will be prepared especially after weekly scrimmages and help from veterans of the other teams in the league. Here’s a quick look at the summer smash-up bout.

Some of you may already know but just in case you don’t I will tell you now.

I have joined a roller derby team!

I think that official makes me the coolest out of all my friends. Just kidding.

The team I joined, Tokyo Bombers Girls are still fairly new. We don’t even have enough people to really call ourselves a team yet but we’re working on it. That’s why I’m going to take this opportunity to put a call out to any ladies out there (in the Tokyo area) that are interested in joining us. Don’t worry about your skill level, you’ll learn as you go. And even though we’re primarily a Japanese team, language is not an issue. I mean, if I can make it through practice and understand what’s going on, anyone can.

Take a look at the following video if you’re so inclined 🙂

Tokyo Bomber Girls are a part of the Tokyo Roller Girls league which includes:

Zama Killer Katanas
Yokosuka Sushi Rollers
Yokota Scary Blossoms
